Safeway is the go-to supermarket in the heart of kelowna(downtown core) to buy groceries and what not ! Laurel(Owner?)and his Staff are keen upon customer service, very courteous with undying respect for the many customers who walk through the doors daily. Knowledgeable, friendliness hospitality makes the typical clientele feel right at home !
While the overall selection is great, I find there are very little vegan alternatives here. Theres vegan mayo, vegan coffee cream and vegan breakfast links, but very little selection otherwise, including no cheeses or yogurts, very little vegan snacks (chips or cookies), salad dressing (Little Creek is amazing btw!) and so on. Weve been forced to do Costco, Bulk Barn and Independent on Gordon or Superstore for the majority of our shopping. 5/5 stars for location, staff, hours, cleanliness, etc!
It has a decent selection of the basics, but with convenience store pricing. Free range eggs are twice the price of Independent or Save On. The bakery has nothing that catches my interest. They're surrounded by 3 bus stops, but they don't sell bus passes. It's kind of a dinosaur in Kelowna's gradually-evolving downtown.It would be a big improvement if this was replaced with a Save On, Nester's Market or really anything... A strip-mall with a Starbucks, a 7-11 and a florist would serve the same purpose. A Whole Foods store would be a dream come true.
Safeway is an all-around good grocery store. It has decent deals on my favorite snacks, and can have decent deals on the items that I actually need. The customer service is splendid, and makes finding specific items significantly easier; keep in mind, however, that no store has everything. For your meticulously crafted diets you may have to search elsewhere. All in all a good experience, and I regularly shop there.
Good store. Nice staff. well stocked. Crazy busy all the time. Long lineups at the till even though they are all open.
