My son went to Kelowna Waldorf K to grade 8 and came out as a self confident young man.Strong opinions , and the ability to embrace new ideas and accept people for who they are.Now in high school honours in math , awards for work ethic , and participation in class discussions exploring new ideas or debating old ones values. He can definitely get under my skin as he will not back down from a point of view unless you have a solid argument as to why he needs to change his, because I said so, is not enough. Having the ability to question authority In a respectful way takes courage and tremendous self confidence which he has.I recommend this school to anyone who wants a child who is able to assess the information presented to them and make their own decisions. Also with the self assuredness to question their teachers and others on differing points of view. I believe with the education and foundation given to him at the Kelowna Waldorf School, he will always be a leader and not a blind follower as so many are in society today.There is hope for the future ....thank you Kelowna Waldorf.

If you had a asked me two years ago if I was going to say such negative things about a Waldorf School, I would have said you were crazy. But here we are. After 4 years at KWS, we have pulled our daughter out. The last 2 years have been rife with political turmoil and negligent leadership. A year ago, myself and a few other concerned parents attempted to re-stabilize the school (after it's last Board of Trustee upheaval) by running as Executive board members. In that year, we tried in vain to stay the course and repair the damage inflicted by our previous Board. However, when you are working with people who are autocratic, that is an exercise in futility. Gone is the Three Fold Social Order that Waldorf schools thrive on. In its place, there exists a pervasive dysfunctional dynamic that makes most decisions based on fear. As a result, many of the parents regrettably followed with blind faith, in the hopes that all would eventually be reconciled. This did not happen. Now, there is apathy towards any serious infraction of the school's bylaws and governance. The children are the direct victims of a complete lack of leadership and have now turned up with developmental deficits - my daughter included. Because of the irresponsible financial mishandling of the school, there was no Eurythmy, wood working, nature walks (minimum), games and recorder lessons. These are all valuable skills needed for proper motor skill development according to Steiner. In summary, the current Board of Trustees have bankrupted the school - financially, ethically, morally and, worst of all, spiritually.
This school has focused on my child as an individual and has helped her more than words can say. We moved her to Waldorf from public school and I have never regretted that decision. The teachers have shown her kindness and caring and an understanding of her unique needs as a human being. She is now in grade 4 and reading and writing nonstop thanks to her teacher inspiring and encouraging her. She has also gained an amazing amount of confidence since she has started at this school. The highlight of my day is watching her come out of class at pick up time with a smile on her face and an excitement to share her school day with me.
I am a public school teacher and I am always delighted to receive a Kelowna Waldorf graduate into my classroom. It is my experience that Kelowna Waldorf students are a very unique breed in that they are generally very grounded and mature individuals. They bring with them a level of self awareness that we should all aspire to.When it comes to academics, I am always impressed by their keenness and their refreshing attitude toward learning, which sadly you just dont see that often in students that have come through the mainstream setting. These children also have a multi dimensional foundation and advanced knowledge base that often leads to them skipping ahead a grade or a level once they begin in our school. I have been so intrigued by the many Waldorf grads that have come through my classroom over the years that I have begun studying the fundamentals of Waldorf Education and have imparted many concepts within my own teachings in my public school realm.
